Senior Citizens' Centre of the Municipality of Medulin
The Senior Citizens’ Centre of the Municipality of Medulin is one of the Municipality’s most significant projects in the field of social infrastructure and care for older people. For the newly opened centre, we developed the visual identity and signage system. The starting point was the desire to make the space feel warm, calm and familiar rather than institutional. As users leave their own homes when entering the centre, the aim was to create an atmosphere that evokes home through the visual identity and signage.
The inspiration comes from family homes, where tapestries and framed pictures tell personal stories. The logo combines three elements: the X symbol inspired by tapestry cross-stitch, the heart as a symbol of care and home, and their shared form, which creates the Medulin Mill, a 140-year-old windmill with four sails and one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks. The same principle extends into the signage system through an iconography based on the X symbol, carrying the tapestry motif throughout the space. The icons are embossed on canvas and framed in simple wooden frames, evoking pictures in family homes. Each floor has its own colour, while large compositions with the floor number and icons identify spaces at entrances and in corridors. In this way, signage becomes more than orientation, contributing to a warm and familiar atmosphere.
