Sliparija - An expanded film as a theatrical play
Istrian National Theater is Pula's city theater where different cultural content has been presented to the audience for years. One of them is a theatrical performance „Sliparija“, a visual translation of the novel written by Milan Rakovac for film and theater. Our task was to conceptualize and design the main communication visual, as well as all the communication materials, i.e. billboards, citylight and B1 posters, invitations, and the booklet for the aforementioned performance.
The poster announcing “Sliparija” has five graphic solutions to present as many play fragments as possible. There is a strong presence of the Istrian region and wondrous life of the inland’s natural world through the legend of Bilf, a mythical creature that lives in Istrian pits, so-called “foibas”. This has been conveyed to the audience primarily through onomatopoeic expressions. This is why the posters themselves contain onomatopoeic expressions that the audience can hear during the performance. Besides that, the above- mentioned slogans seem to “come out” of the darkness, the depth that brings to mind the previously mentioned foiba.
