Fortresses - The Faith of a City
The scientific publication “Fortresses – The Fate of a City”, created for the Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria, explores the neglected system of Pula’s fortifications through museum and archival materials documenting its history. The publication provides an overview of defensive structures that reflect the development of military technology, defense strategies, and engineering achievements of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The publication’s diverse content shaped a design that emphasizes its layered character. The catalogue was conceived as an official naval officer’s folder, featuring a binding inspired by vintage archival files, with kraft paper covers, metal rings, and binding cords that reinforce the impression of a functional working document. Pages of varying formats and tones create a dynamic structure reminiscent of an archival folder, while thicker separator pages improve the clarity and organization of the content. Designed for active use, the catalogue gradually takes on the character of a personal file through time and handling.
